Having Disney at your fingertips is great. Especially when you're getting it through an app that is well designed, functional, and, in some cases, fun. However, when you see that notification harping that you're running out of storage on your phone, you have to decide which apps you can keep and which ones to toss. That's why I've taken the liberty of downloading each top Disney app on the app store and rating it on a scale of Keep or Toss. So here are the Disney apps that are worth keeping and the ones that you should be letting go of.
1. My Disney Experience
What it does: Links your ticket/magic bands to an account that is able to book fast passes, reserve meals, and access PhotoPass. It also provides the hours that the parks will be open, the wait times on the rides and attractions, and ticket prices.
My experience: I've never had a problem with this app besides some freezing/lagging sometimes. Other than that, it has been fully functional and convenient.
Keep or Toss? I would say keep, but only if you are on a Disney trip or are planning one. If neither are the case, then it will just be taking up space on your phone unnecessarily.
2. Disney Channel
What it does: Allows you to catch up on Disney Channel shows that you've missed or watch live episodes if you're not at home. You can also take quizzes, and see bonus footage.
My experience: I don't watch Disney Channel so I used this app for a short amount of time. You can do all of the above for free there are just a couple of ads. If you want to watch a show live you have to have parent permission and sign up etc. Overall, this app seemed pretty functional.
Keep or Toss? If you have a DVR capability on your TV, I would recommend recording your favorite shows and watching them on there in order to save space on your phone. If you want the quizzes and bonus features that come with it, I would recommend utilizing YouTube and the Disney Channel website. So this app is a toss.
3. Disney Junior
What it does: Allows you to do pretty much the same this as the Disney channel app, but for Disney Junior instead of Disney Channel. Includes games, short clips, and music.
My experience: Again, I don't normally watch Disney Junior so I don't know how this app is long-term, but I had the same experience as with the Disney Channel app.
Keep or Toss? If you have a toddler and you're always out and about, this is a definite must for you. It will keep them entertained and happy whenever you need it to. If not, and you just have fun watching little kid shows, just stick to the DVR.
4. Disney Movies Anywhere
What it does: Does exactly as it says and lets you watch Disney movies anywhere, you just use the codes inside your physical copies or you buy them through the app. Again, a lot of storage!
My experience: I never really use the apps where you watch movies or TV shows because I don't travel as much, but this app seemed very reasonable and convenient for people who are constantly on-the-go.
Keep or Toss? I kind of touched on this in my experience and with some of the other apps, but unless you travel a lot, I would say toss and stick to watching the movies at home.
5. Disney Crossy Road
What it does: It's exactly like the popular app Crossy Road but with Disney settings and characters
My experience: I love this game, I think it's so fun to get all of the characters and see each of their quirks.
Keep or Toss? Keep. It's such a fun game and doesn't take that much storage!
6. Disney Emoji Blitz
What it does: It's essentially a Candy Crush game but with little Disney emoji characters. You can pass different levels and collect items. Also, a fun feature is actually being able to utilize the Disney Emojis on your phone! The more items you collect, the more emojis you'll have.
My experience: This game is very entertaining, especially when you don't have wifi. It doesn't take data or internet and is one of those simple games that suck you in.
Keep or Toss? Keep. It's a cute game that takes little storage and no internet.
7. Disney Magic Kingdoms
What it does: You complete missions and tasks to rebuild Magic Kingdom that has been overtaken by evil
My experience: I, as an 18 year old, had a really fun time with this app. The images were high quality and I never got bored. However, the only downfall is that it takes a lot of storage. It's like a whole virtual world on your phone.
Keep or Toss? If you have another device besides your phone (say, an iPad) that you can download this on or you don't have a lot of apps on your phone, this is definitely a keep!
8. Shop Disney Parks
What it does: Allows you to buy Disney merchandise that is found in the parks. You can get special offers and your purchases can be shipped right to your house.
My experience: I love this app. I've made a few purchases and they have arrived in a timely manner and I have also gotten special deals through the app.
Keep or Toss? If you don't visit the parks often, this app is a blessing. you can still shop for park merchandise without setting foot outside of your house. Even if you do visit often or have an annual pass, you can still order something you may have forgotten, or something for your next visit.
9. Disney Applause
What it does: allows you to enter contests hosted by Disney and provides you with some bonus features .
My experience: I have seem some really fun contests come and go through this app! I've never had the time to enter any, but there are plenty provided. It's a fun way for families to get together and do something creative for the purpose of being rewarded by Disney. When The Wonderful World of Disney (Disneyland's 60th anniversary showcases) I downloaded the app and it synced up with the show! That was a really neat experience.
Keep or Toss? If you're a huge Disney lover and want to potentially win a trip to the parks and love interactive bonus features, I would definitely say keep! If you're only going to use it for purposes such as wonderful world of Disney, then I would download it for such and then delete it again.
Those are all of the Disney apps that the app store told me were the most popular -I'm trusting you, Apple -and which ones you should actually keep. I hope my input was helpful, and that you'll consider it the next time your iPhone inconveniently prompts you to delete some stuff.
Never Stop Dreaming,
Nicole
