Guardians of the Galaxy, Mission: BREAKOUT! Replacing Tower of Terror

Disney released the news some time ago that they are going to be renovating the Hollywood Tower Hotel to be a ride themed around the recent Marvel film, Guardians of the Galaxy. This change will only be affecting Disneyland's California Adventure, leaving the parks in Orlando, Tokyo, and Paris with the classic Tower of Terror thrill ride. The last day for Tower of Terror will be January 2, 2017. The new ride will feature the guardians trapped in a facility resembling one from the movie. In the beginning of the ride, Rocket will escape and recruit the guests (or the VIPs) to help his friends escape, taking you on an action-packed journey to free the guardians. The ride is said to also have some humor throughout, which is not surprising considering the nature of the film.

The outside of the building still resembles the basic structure of Tower of Terror, with the exception of a profound sci-fi look

Just like all other Disney changes, events, and actions I have an opinion on this matter. I'm honestly happy that this ride, as of right now, is not coming to Orlando's Hollywood Studios. First of all, the Studios already has a Star Wars Land, covering the sci-fi aspect. If they change TOT to the Guardians version of the ride, it will almost be an overload of sci-fi and there will hardly be any "Hollywood" left. Also, Tower of Terror is a classic ride that is themed around the classic show that many love: The Twilight Zone. Not only will this break the hearts of the T.V. show fans along with the ride fans, but the Studios will lose its major icon. First the sorcerer's hat, now this. On the Disney Parks app, would the Tower of Terror still be the icon for Hollywood Studios' tab and it would just be understood that it's Mission: BREAKOUT! ?

While I have my own viewpoint on this story, I can't feel too strongly until I've actually experienced the new ride. It may be amazing, it may be a disappointment. No one can fully evaluate the change until we've experienced what the Imagineers had in mind for us. The bright side to all changes is Walt's belief that “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.” I think it still rings true today.

Never Stop Dreaming,

Nicole
